The story so far…
Before we jump into the next round of A Demo a Day posts, let’s review what we’ve learned. Here’s the story so far:
Thomas, an avowed agnostic, rails against the human folly threatening to end all life as we know it in the opening number If This Goes On…
Brother John, a firebrand preacher, also foretells a cataclysmic future— only this one is straight out of Revelations from the New Testament. He is soon joined by Maggie and the chorus in leading an old-fashioned revival meeting, which ends with him collapsing into an exhausted heap on the lectern: “very soon, dear children, all will be revealed.” Maggie and her church group then take to the streets, spreading the good word of the gospel and warning passersby that it’s time to Prepare Yourself; the end is coming, and it’s later than you think.
Thomas comes upon Maggie and her group in the park and cynically challenges them (Tomorrow). Maggie responds by telling her own story of redemption, offering that Thomas, too, can be Saved. Thomas, who is perennially searching for both meaning and love, doesn’t see the harm in giving it a try.
By now, we’ve met our two leads. Next up we will be showcasing a series of numbers that establish most of the principals and the backdrop of world events leading up to the end. It’s a fun batch of demos featuring hard rock, rage rock, dance and industrial. Keep it right here!
